So after my "day of beauty" I decided to check Bay Ridge out for some foodage. If you know Hellman, you know he goes on and on about how great the food is in BK. This may be true, but I'll have to go back to try it out.
I should have taken some pictures, but I was worried I'd mess up my nails (which ended up happening anyways). There is a cafe/bistro on 3rd Ave. in the mid-80's called Cebu. I was curious to see if they served some Filipino food, but it was on the other side of the street, and I was on a mission to find the cupcake shop.
The Little Cupcake Bakeshop (9102 3rd Avenue, Brooklyn). I've heard about this place before, either somewhere online or on television. It's a corner shop, and you might just miss it if you weren't actively looking for it. There were mothers and their kids outside and a handful of people inside- cues that made me think it was worth the ten block walk from the salon (it's probably less than ten blocks, but i was checking out some of the houses).
Inside, the bakeshop is small, but not cramped. To the right side of the shop there are ~6-7 tables; to the left, a long glass case which held the cupcakes, mini cheesecakes, and other treats. On top of the case were cakes, and I could tell that one slice would be more than I could handle.
So I opted for two cupcakes ($1.75 each). Red Velvet and Strawberry. The RV was okay, albeit a bit dry. The icing was perfect though. The Strawberry cupcake was a disaster. The icing was rock hard and too sweet. And it was also dry. I ended up not finishing it because I was starting to feel sick. The iced coffee was good.
I opted to eat at one of the tables outside, so I could take in the... neighborhood. There was one guy putting up a sign about garbage cans and ranting to anyone who passed him how the country's "going to shit."
That... and that someone put garbage in the garbage can.
Crazy Brooklyn man.
