M and I finally made our way to the other side of Troy and visited Bella Napoli. I took a quick look at the cases, and decided on a jelly filled donut, two mini cannolis, and an apple dumpling.
First, the apple dumpling. One whole cored apple, stuffed with butter, cinnamon, sugar, and raisins. It's wrapped in dough and baked until golden brown.
Not bad, but the apple was a little too tart for me. Flaky dough, both crunchy and sweet.
I liked the cannolis. I thought I tasted some anise flavor to it, which is a nice change from the usual cannoli. Then again, I could have totally imagined that anise flavor. Who knows.
The look I gave M after he made fun of my comments about the lack of chocolate chips.

no marachino cherries either?
And the donut...
IMHO the best cannoli i have had in the area is from Andy's on Delaware Ave.
You know, I bought the donut... and didn't eat it. I gave it to M, who forgot about it. When he did remember (I tried to make it easy for him to remember it- the bag was on his computer) it was too late and the donut went kind of stale.
I feel bad about doing that to the donut. Things like that shouldn't happen to good donuts.
But then again, maybe I was subconsciously acting like that because I love the jelly filled donuts from DePiero's so much.
