Kellogg’s Special K Red Berries

specialk

Breakfast anyone?

As a part of Foodbuzz’s Tastemaker Program, I received not one, but two boxes of Kellogg’s Special K Red Berries cereal to try.

If you recall, I recently tried another Kellogg’s product, that abomination breakfast item called Eggo Real Fruit Pizzas. But that was “breakfast pizza” and this is cereal. Clearly two very different things.

Special K has been synonymous with dieting. I grew up watching commercials of women fit into that perfect dress or swimsuit, thanks to a daily bowl of cereal. It is has now expanded to cereal/meal/snack bars, crackers, and drinks to help people lose weight. I think it’s all gimmick, but whatever works, right?

According to the flyer that came with the cereal, each serving of Special K Red Berries contains 3 grams of fiber. Not to mention it’s fortified with a spattering of vitamins… and did I say fruit? Well, freeze dried fruit- but it did resemble fruit at one point.

Being that it has extra fiber, I was expecting that it would taste fiber-y. It’s a mix of sweetened rice and wheat flakes. Not as sweet as Frosted Flakes, but sweet enough to make you forget there’s whole wheat in it. The fruit I could have done without – freeze dried fruits have a tendency to stick to teeth.

When you do catch me eating cereal, it's not in a bowl with some milk. I usually throw some in a sandwich bag and snack away when I get a craving. Which is what I did with this cereal, and in a blink of an eye two boxes were finished.

Overall, pretty good! And this is coming from a non-cereal eater. I’d consider buying this again.
