Albany Eats Potluck No. 2

We said there would be another potluck, didn’t we? Here are the pictures to prove it.

Because the weather was questionable, the potluck location had to be moved indoors and AJ invited us all to her place. And as usual, it was fun times, and my pictures from this point in the afternoon are lacking because well… there was eating and socializing to do.

That up there is a sausage salad made by Chef Chris Tanner. You may have heard of him… he teaches at SCCC and they’ve got a charcuterie thing going on up there right now (FYI: 12-4PM Wed. & Thurs.). Anyhoo, that salad was fantastic. Multiple helpings fantastic. I’ve said “I need to make this” about a lot of things, but really… I need to make this. He also made a charcuterie plate, which I didn’t get a chance to try.

Meats aside, there was roasted potatoes, chickpea salad, fruit salad, angel food cake with berries and whipped cream, and freshly picked strawberries. My contribution to the potluck was garlic fried peanuts, and pickled carrots and bitter melon for AJ.

The party moved over to Wolff’s for some boot drinking. That is a whole lot of beer. I stuck to non-alcoholic beverages there (responsible driver – take note) and indulged instead on their food.

Roasted Brussels sprouts with bacon and leeks. Sure, I could have asked for the vegetarian version for M, but I can’t deny my stomach bacon. It’s just wrong. Pretty good, enough for me to recommend it to my sister, who met up with us there later in the evening. She like it as well.

Pommes frites. Couldn’t stop eating them. Served with mayo, which I tried and decided it wasn’t for me. I was contemplating asking for vinegar, but eh… not worth the hassle. They were good plain just as well. My sister also ordered the fries and asked about the mayo. You can tell we’re related all right… just hear us talk about food!

The cucumber salad was not was I was expected – I imagined something similar to the Viennese cucumber salad I made for Project Food Blog, but this was cukes tossed in a creamy dressing with chopped fresh dill. It was slightly tart… maybe it was a buttermilk type of dressing? Was not a fan of this, and M gladly ate the rest.

 

This sauerkraut was also not what I expected. It was just plain sauerkraut, which would have gone well with a wurst of some kind. But I didn’t get that. I left this to M to finish.
