Keeping Me Sane

Another night in the library. Reading small font, pages and pages of text... and yeah. Your eyes glaze over and focus is hard. Did I nod off? Perhaps. Which is why I kept this in my bag. Thank you Ikea, for my 99 cent big bar of chocolate.

Only in Sweden

Kids are lucky these days. Smartphones, tablets, and plush salmon fillets? Complete with lemon wedges, sliced tomato, and what I can only imagine being broccoli. 

Future Purchase

If/When M and I get a house, this will be the first thing I buy for it. Definitely more affordable than Le Creuset, and unlike that pricey line, the handle for the lid is not made of plastic.

Chicken Marsala

I picked up some pots from Ikea and decided to grab some lunch. I went with their special instead of the usual meatballs. It seemed a little overcooked, but it was still tasty.

I want to say it's better for you than meatballs, but considering it's food from the food court of a home store... I have little hope.

Eating With Our Eyes

I was the one that suggested we go to Ikea. Mags and I were hungry, and it had been a while since we last visited. I went with my meatballs, Mags went with the two cakes above. If I recall, she had most of the Almond cake, and just a little bit of the Chocolate. Both were just meh... makes me reconsider buying one of their frozen desserts. Roe in a tube, I will never reconsider.

That story floating around the intranetz about the quality of ground beef didn't help with those meatballs. It kept popping up in my head, inducing queasiness. I pushed through, and only left three meatballs. Soup was good. Forgot how tart the Ligonberries can be.

In case you didn't know... Wednesday is rib night. I'll get around to trying it one of these days.

After our meal, we goofed around and took pictures of me around the store with a bib. Looking at them, I now realize I can never post them on this blog and hold my head high.

Food Pimpin' Eye Kee Yaaah (Paramus, NJ)

 

Who knew that a home retail store would be a surprising food destination? The Bitten blog does, here and here. Not to mention the discussion over at Chowhound and Serious Eats. My earliest Ikea memories date back at least twenty years ago. My parents brought my sister and I along to the grand opening of the Ikea in Elizabeth and the two things I remember clearly are the ball room and the meatballs. Maybe there were pretzels.

It wasn't until a year ago that I stepped foot in another Ikea, this time the one in Paramus. I'm not sure if it's as big as the one in Elizabeth, but it's a heck of a lot closer to my house, thus making an Ikea food run feasible. This place is good enough that I chose it as a Supper Club site. It's the meatballs, I tell you.

Meatballs + cream sauce + ligonberry jam = one happy gal

Aside from the cafe, there is also a little shoppette. You can get hot dogs and pretzels, yogurt and cinnamon buns. They also sell food items that you might not find in your local supermarket. Jelly rats? I'm tempted... but next time. Also for next time, creamed smoked roe from a tube.
