Veggie Mobile

One of the things I wanted to do while I was up in Troy was to check out the Veggie Mobile. According to their schedule, they wouldn't stop in Troy until the afternoon, allowing us to sleep in and get some things done. We drove over to the Kennedy Towers and the familiar green truck was parked in front of the building.

I oohed and aahed as I walked up the steps into the truck. I looked at the chalkboard sign which listed the prices of the fruits and vegetables. And I also realized that I wouldn't be able to buy much, since we weren't planning on heading back to the apartment until the evening. But the strawberries I couldn't pass up. At 2.25, it was slightly more expensive than what I've been buying at the store... but then again, I guess it would be worth it if the store comes to you instead of the other way around.

When we got back, M sliced about half of the strawberries and tossed with just a bit of sugar. Definitely hit the spot.

Veggie Mobile

I'm going to do it this year. I need to take advantage of the Veggie Mobile. As much as I'd like to depend solely on my garden, I already know it won't produce enough... and what will grow won't show up until at least June.

So, if you are in the Capital Region, here is the current Veggie Mobile schedule:

2009 Veggie Mobile Schedule

Thursday

11a-12p Renwyck Place, 18 4th St, Rensselaer
1230-130 John P. Taylor Apartments, Congress St @ River St, Troy
2-330 The Kennedy Towers Senior Housing Development, 2100 6th Ave, Troy
4-430 Carroll Hill School, 112 Delaware Ave, Troy

Friday

11a-1230p South Mall Towers, 101 S Pearl St, Albany
1-2 St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Rd, Albany
230-330 Ten Eyck Apartments, 375 Broadway, Schenectady

You can check the Veggie Mobile map here. They also have a blog, but it looks like it hasn't been updated since December. When they do get around to updating, it will be a good resource, since they post their available produce and prices.
