Apple Cider Donuts

I don’t know about you, but one of these would be good this morning. Perhaps paired with some apple cider? Or at least some coffee. I picked these sugar coated darlings up from DePiero’s Farm, which along with purchasing pumpkins, is the thing to do in Montvale in the fall. The place was packed, as usual… making my shopping mission there as quick as possible.

But these, I waited for. Took a number and waited. But hey, it’s cool. They’re apple cider donuts! Yeah, so what if they use a pre-made mix… I’m sure they add in a ton of their cider into it.

Oh, by the way, Saturday is Tour de Donut. I’ll be there, and if you’re free I suggest you should too.

Breakfast

Picked this up from a bakery on Grand Street in Chinatown. Donuts on a stick, how could I refuse? Quite tasty and reminded me of bicho-bicho.

More Apple Picking

I guess it’s official – apple picking season is over. I was in the car this afternoon and the reporter had mentioned that most orchards are just about picked out. The warm spring led to earlier harvests, and the storms that passed through this area didn’t help with the whole pick-your-own situation. But it does help with cider making… and I do love cider.

Apple Cider Donuts: DePiero’s Farm

I was looking forward to the Daniel B’s Tour de Donut, but it landed on a weekend that I already had made plans. To make up for the lost donut adventure, I’ve decided to seek out apple cider donuts in the New York/New Jersey area. Specifically, Rockland and North Bergen County.

To start things off, I checked the bakery at DePiero’s in Montvale, NJ.

Hawaiian Vacation: Breakfast

It’s not that I’ve forgotten about mentioning my trip on here, it’s just that I’ve been really busy with other things.

What you see here is what I typically ate for breakfast – nothing out of the ordinary, other than my coffee being Kona. Not really one to eat in the mornings, and besides, soon after waking up I ran straight for the beach. Don’t need the breakfast bloat as I’m laying out on the sand.

On one of our last days at the hotel, we (Mags, my sister, and I) tried out the breakfast buffet in one of the hotel’s restaurants. It was pretty good, lots of fresh fruit and “Hawaiian this” and “Hawaiian that” breakfast items. The waffles were especially delicious… I think I scarfed down at least six of them.

Mags was all about those biscuits for some reason. Biscuits and loads of butter. I didn’t even notice they had any out, I was too busy eating waffles.

One of my sister’s creations. Lasted long enough for her to take pictures with all our phones. I think I helped out with the nose… and maybe an ear.

I can't find anywhere online about Mister Donut and if they're doing anything to celebrate. Which means a trip to the mall. Not too happy about that, but at least I can get a Jamba if plans fall through.

And let's be honest, this is Jamba weather. Someone open up a Jamba Juice in the Capitol Region!

DePiero Country Farms (Montvale, NJ)

I'm all for farmers markets, but there really isn't any down here. Next option? Go straight to the farm. DePiero's has been around forever, and before this week I've only been in there once before... and that was years and years ago. They sell vegetables and fruits that they grow, and have a lot for the lunch crowds (it's pretty much in the middle of business parktopia). I got there too late, so I missed out on some made to order fish and chips (next time!). They were breaking down the salad bar, so I quickly grabbed a few things that would be quick to eat before a long study session.

Sliced beets, stuffed grape leaves, tabbouleh, chunky chicken salad, and a tomato salad. Everything except for the grape leaves were really good. The salad bar is $4.99/lb which isn't bad at all. They sell soup as well, and that goes for $3.99/lb.

The best part of this place? Bakery. Doughnuts are big and delicious. I was originally going to go with a chocolate frosted, but I saw a huge tray of jelly filled- heaven! One of these will set you back 80 cents, and oh so worth it.

Actually, it looks like the rain has let up. I think I might head up there right now for a snack!
