Lunch Review - Ocean Empire
Today was my last day of civic duty. To celebrate, I decided to try out a restaurant I've heard about. Located on Rt. 202 (not far from the Rt. 45 intersection), I almost missed Ocean Empire. I missed the entrance completely and had to turn around. Note: Ocean Empire is directly across the street from a Sunoco gas station There is plenty of parking around back and in the adjacent lot.
Just like the outside, the inside is a bit worn out. It was dimly lit, which I guess means inviting. As you walk in there is a bar and a take out area. Through the double doors is the main dining room. The front of the room houses a mini sushi bar, which was closed for lunch. The front of the room were mostly booths and the the back were mostly tables. Beyond that was the banquet room, but I didn't get a chance to look in there. I chose a nice sunny window booth and was immediately served fried noodles with duck sauce/mustard, and tea.
Big and not very greasy.
The menu is big. They have the standard dishes, with plenty of vegetarian options. Their lunch menu is pretty good, with three different regular combos and two "gourmet" options. I chose a gourmet lunch combo (garlic beef) and it came with fried rice, foil wrapped chicken, dumpling, and a little egg roll.
Loved their hot and sour soup. Nice and not too thick, with plenty of cubed tofu.
The lunch. It smelled fantastic and was more than I could eat. I could have done without the fried rice (microbiology scarred me for life).
I will have to try and make this at home. Chicken (marinated in what tasted like soy sauce, ginger and scallions) wrapped in a tiny foil pouch and baked.
I have no idea what this was, but it was tasty. It definitely should have been a bit bigger.
If you're in the area, stop in for some lunch. I don't know how the dinners are there, but I am sure I will be heading there with M in the near future.
