Volunteering

Thought I'd let you in on this new thing of mine.

I've been volunteering at a co-op. I'd rather not say the name, but I'm sure you know which one. Anyways, I've been volunteering in other capacities - stocking, grocery, even running the register. But the one gig I always wanted but could never do was work in the kitchen. Until now.

I normally delete the e-mail they send out, but one of them I decided to see what they were offering. In there a posting for member spot in the kitchen. I immediately signed up and waited for a response. A week passed and nothing. I pouted, of course, and figured it just wasn't my time. But then finally (finally!) I got a response - they had an opening... which day would work for me?

Post happy dance, I gave the days that worked for me and I was set.

The first day was a little nerve wracking - working with a group of people I don't know. But everyone for the most part was friendly and I tried my best to jump in and help out as much as possible. Chopped up herbs, diced vegetables, checked the coffee station. Some people may find that mundane, but I thought it was a nice change of pace, considering my line of work.

It's been three weeks now and I'm starting to get the hang of it. There's still a lot of things that I don't know, but it's kinda cool knowing there's stuff out there I helped make. And let me tell you, they taste pretty darn good.

If it is the coop I'm thinking of, I hit the lunch buffet whenever I'm nearby. I wonder if I've had your stuff.
