Hazy Shade of Winter

I don’t care what my friends say, but I love that Bangles song. It was in a movie that I believe was called “Less than Zero.” Eighties movie. Gotta love that.

We’re getting a nor’easter. Snow showers this afternoon that will turn into full blown white flakes of goodness by the evening. And I planned on going home this weekend. How quaint. Well, I guess it’s time to get snow. Since I came back from the Philippines, the weather has been unseasonably warm. Not this past week, but before then I was going out in skirts, no jacket, you get the idea. I really hate cold weather, but I love snowboarding… and I haven’t hit the slopes at all this season. Hopefully the Vermont resorts get a good foot or two of snow thanks to this storm!

Last night was the Epsilon class inauguration dinner ceremony. It was held at the Albany Crown Plaza in beautiful Albany, NY. Smaller than our dinner last year, it was still a good time. Four course meal which started with an eggplant appetizer. Looked to me like a slice of eggplant fried up with ricotta cheese smeared on it and rolled up burrito style. Covered with a chunky marinara and mozzarella cheese. Not too bad. Salad came next, and it looked a bit better than what I usually expect for a dinner salad. Mixed greens (wild greens?) with grape tomatoes and black olives and alfalfa sprouts. Dressing options were raspberry vinaigrette and what I’m guessing was creamy Italian. I chose the vinaigrette. I chose the beef dinner for my main entree, which composed of 5 slices of prime rib with a dab whole grain Dijon mustard, seasoned baby carrots (I tasted dill, salt, and butter), and roasted red potatoes. The meat was decent, not chewy. I would have finished all of the rib had I not forgotten about the dinner and ate a big bowl of pasta. Dessert was this insane chocolate cake concoction that I was unable to finish eating. Chocolate cake with what tasted like a chocolate-coffee filling, frosted with chocolate fudge icing and then dark chocolate ganache poured over the top. WHEW!

After the dinner, majority of the frat went to Blue 82. I’ve heard how great this place was, but because it’s downtown, I never went there. Now I can say I’ve been there and I do plan on going back. Ended up ordering two bottles of champagne (I forget the name of it, but it was the cheapest one they had) and then a bottle of Yellow Tail Reserve White, which one I have no idea. I think I held my own… had some balance issues, but you try standing with a high skinny heel! I woke up with no hangover, which I can’t complain about. Some other people I know obviously can’t take their bubbles. SUCKA!

Okay, I should grab my things and head home. I don’t want to run into any more bad weather. I hate driving when its like this, but I miss my fam.
