The Salmon Skin roll - fried salmon skin and scallions wrapped in rice and coated with fish eggs. I think skin anything gets me excited, so salmon skin in a sushi roll is absolutely heaven. They were pretty good, although I think it's just a tad too big. (Sorry if the picture is too dark)
D ordered the Philly roll, which is salmon, avocado, and cream cheese. Looks pretty good to me.
D ordered Bibimbap, which is a bowl of white riced topped with meat, seasoned vegetables, and egg. I reminded D to ask for the egg sunny side up so he can get the yolk mixed in with the rest of the food. It comes with miso soup and a small dish of red pepper paste (if you're not really into heat, don't add all of the paste!). If you're curious as to how to make it, check this video out.
I ended up ordering the kimchi jjigae, which is basically a stew made with thinly sliced pork, firm tofu, scallions, and plenty of kimchi. It came with a small bowl of rice, which I hardly touched. I thought I would get some of those little sides that I love, but I guess they only do that for certain dishes. Boo. (I need to sit under a light next time)
Out of the three of us, M didn't like Arirang. There really isn't much on the menu for vegetarians, and he wasn't in the mood for vegetable sushi rolls. He finally chose the vegetable udon, which he didn't like. In his words, "tasteless, and that's pretty much it. Noodles and vegetables and water, which I guess is soup, but it's not delicious though."
After the meal, D and I ordered desert. We both ended up choosing the fried banana with a scoop of green tea ice cream. Ripe sliced bananas dipped in tempura batter and fried until golden brown. The banana ended up being mushy, but I think that's bound to happen when you use regular bananas and not ripe plantains. It was still very good, and went well with the green tea ice cream.
Check it out if you're craving Korean and in the area. Stay away if you're not a big meat eater. They'll do orders to go, but they don't deliver.
