Random Thoughts on a Saturday Night

It's the weekend... Saturday night to be specific. Not out mucking it up, but visiting family. November 1st, All Saints Day. Paying our respects to the departed. M doesn't understand why this is a thing, but it is.

Today was another Tour de Donut, which I should write about. We'll see how that goes. I'm still full from this morning - I consumed about half a dozen. I may have hit my quota for the season.

Going over the review sheet for my Baking class. This coming test will cover the last two and the upcoming lab, so pies and cookies. The review was supposed to be done and handed in during this week's lab. Yeah... didn't do that. Worse case scenario, she gets it next week. Whatever, this isn't hard (but don't tell that to some of my classmates). Write by hand, type it up later to hand in. If anything, it'll reinforce the important concepts.

I still need to write my personal statement for graduate school. I've been attempting to write this since February. Talk about writer's block. Sure, I have notes here and there... a sentence jotted down on a copy of the New York Times because an article brought about some inspiration. My reluctance to complete it probably shows I don't really want to go to grad school, but it's something that has to be done. Upward mobility, career path... blah blah blah.

I think I'll finish off the leftover ribs.

A Chilly Walk

IMG_0107

Winter has been going on… FOREVER. It seems like it anyways. On a warm weekend morning, M and I thought it would be nice to go for a walk with the pup. She’s been cooped up inside and besides, we need to get her used to leash walking.

It may be a different story now, but when we went, the trail along the Hudson in Watervliet was not cleared off. Hasn’t stopped people from using the trail, but the freezing and melting made it pretty difficult to walk on. There was lots of slush, and under that slush ICE COLD PUDDLES. And of course I wore my sneakers.

Stella was pretty decent on the leash, but the cars and trucks whizzing by on 787 scared her a bit. I took that picture at the point where she refused to go any further. Fine by me since my socks were soaked. M was crazy enough to go running on that trail. And no sooner did he run by did Stella decide she was going to run back to the car… with me lagging behind trying to avoid the puddles and poop piles.

Pick up after your dogs people. Sheesh.

Stell’s paws were pretty muddy from the walk/run, but M’s shirt cleaned up all of that. My car interior was saved.

Sunday Plans

Just something to keep me on track.

And the red marker completely exploded on me.

A Very Awesome Thing

I may have moved out of Rockland County, but I still feel obligated to let you know about the goings on there. For example, unable to sleep I scrolled through my twitter feed and noticed one from the Suffern Farmers Market. I've known it to just be a summer thing, but it appears they now have an indoor market!

They hold the market every other Saturday from 10am-2pm in the community center (41 Washington Avenue) . The indoor market runs until May, when they move back outdoors.

Check out their blog (suffernfarmersmarket.wordpress.com) for more information, or follow them on twitter (@suffernfarmmkt)

Now, I will attempt to go back to sleep. Busy day ahead...

Can You Believe This is My First Meal Today?

The day is almost done and I'm finally getting around to eating. I know... for someone who loves food to let the actual act of eating food pass her by... woosh. But I had myself a nice relaxing morning, went and volunteered early because I had a date with M.

The boy and some witches for a night of Broadway bliss. Loved Wicked, and our seats weren't that bad.

The show ended late, and eating options around Proctors were slim. So we ended up just going to Bob's. I went with the hamburger deluxe platter and M the No Meat breakfast. Decent enough, but I really wished there were more options late night.

Breakfasting on Wheels

I was on a good streak there, exercising. But a majority of the summer I've been busy until the late evening so working out just had to wait. Then came that nasty humid weather, or the downpours on the weekends that got in the way of healthy activities.

But I did it. I got back on the bike and enjoyed the nice weather. I really wanted to bike out to Rotterdam, but I ran out of time. Settled on twenty miles. A good number and I got to do some uphill work - and failed.

Must say I really like the crunchy peanut butter Clif bar. Going to have to remember to buy more of those.

Dancing and Cupcakes

Red velvet cupcakes from The Fresh Market. Brought them with me back home to a party where my dad was awarded Father of the Year. I helped my mom write up a speech and I had to introduce him. Nerve wracking, but fun.

I really didn't have to buy the cupcakes up here, since there is a FM in Montvale (something I still don't understand).

Feast of Saint Anthony

Food items from different countries for a ticket. How much those tickets were, I don't know - someone just handed me a strip of tickets and told me to go at it. Paella, some Dominican food I forget what, corned beef and rye, and a burger and hot dog. Fun time, ended up having to take lots of pictures for my parents and their friends.

99 Cent Coffee

I've seen the ads for their 99 cent coffee around, and finally got the chance to try some yesterday. Things to know:

1. The coffee isn't cold. It was lukewarm when I poured it into my cup. It was only after I filled it that I saw the sign about getting ice from the "Chill Zone" to add to my drink for the cool effect. So scope the scene out... know where the location of the ice dispenser is and add ice to your liking.

2. The flavor machine is pretty cool. You can add up to three different flavors, pick the appropriate drink size, and it will dispense the proper amount. Only problem with it that is that you can't pick the same flavor more than once in a shot dispenserary frame. You'd have to go through the process three times. A little too much work if you're grabbing a drink to go.

Lunch on the Patio

Now that we have the garden just about the way we want it, it's about time we started enjoying it. So we had lunch outside on Saturday, before the skies darkened and delivered some much needed rain.

Lunch was simple - arugula salad, vegetable soup, and rolls we toasted before eating. M had his cooler of beer and I stayed strictly non-alcoholic. You don't see it, but there is a lot of space on that table. Plenty of space for a few more people.
